CHRISTIAN KOBI is a saxophonist whose work explores the relationship between sound, silence and action in space. He studied music in Basel, Paris and Zuerich, with a concentration in experimental music and improvisation. Kobi performs and creates with various musicians, composers and artists in context of long term partnerships with artists such as Phill Niblock, Jürg Frey, Taku Sugimoto and Keith Rowe. Since 2004 he has curated the “zoom in“ festival for improvised music in the Bern Cathedral. He is also a founding member of the Konus Quartett, who performed with Tomas Korber at the Goethe-Institut Boston in 2016. Christian teaches improvisation at the Bern University of Arts (HKB) and is the founder of Cubus Records.
VIC RAWLINGS is a musician, instrument builder, sound installation artist, filmmaker, and teacher based in western Massachusetts. His teaching interests include conventional forms of music ranging widely in style (electric and acoustic guitar/banjo/mandolin/etc.), as well as collective sound-based improvisation, electroacoustic instrument building, and listening actions. As an improvisor/electroacoustic musician, he most often uses an amplified/prepared cello and an electronic instrument of his own design and build.
This program is supported in part by the Boston Cultural Council, a local agency which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and admistrated by the Mayor’s Office of Arts + Culture.
