EVA-MARIA HOUBEN (born 1955) studied Music Education at Folkwang-Musikhochschule Essen and the organ with Gisbert Schneider. She received her doctorate and postdoctoral lecturing qualification in musicology and was called for lectures at Gerhard-Mercator-Universität Duisburg and Robert-Schumann-Hochschule Düsseldorf. Professor Houben has been lecturing at Dortmund University`s “Institut für Musik und Musikwissenschaft” since 1993, with both music theory and contemporary music as her focus. She has written numerous books on contemporary music and composers, as well as traditional music, listened to with ‘new ears’.

Eva-Maria Houben has performed works for the organ for more than 30 years, and is a longtime member of the Wandelweiser group of composers. She has composed works for the organ, piano, clarinet, trombone, violoncello and other solo instruments, as well as works for voice and piano, wind and chamber ensembles, orchestra and for voice and orchestra, and choir. Recordings of her work have been released on Edition Wandelweiser, Another Timbre, and Irritable Hedgehog.
