FLOATING SHAPES is the latest incarnation of the ongoing partnership between Abdul Sherzai, Joe Bastardo, and Mickey O’Hara. For a decade, the three have been at the center of performative sound and textural noise in Worcester, MA, having organized multiple long-running festivals and shows at the Firehouse, such as Noise Brunch and countless others. The trio remain stalwart in their utilization of the contemporary “noise table” approach, which consists of found objects, circuit bent equipment, vintage synthesizers, tape recordings and computer-based tone/pattern generation. The result is an immersive, gurgling myre; merging generative and hand-played presentation techniques.
