About the artists
SEIYOUNG JANG is a composer, improviser, and maker currently based in Cambridge, MA. She aims to celebrate manifestations of organic forms in resistance of thoughtless sterility, with a focus on intersubjectivity and embodiment. She has studied with Laetitia Sonami, James Fei, Ted Coffey, Maggi Payne, Chris Brown, and Pauline Oliveros, among others. She obtained her MFA in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College, Oakland, CA. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Creative Practice & Critical Inquiry at Harvard University, studying with Vijay Iyer.
ALEX COHEN is a performer/composer whose work traverses the realms of acoustic music and sonic theater, often involving homemade electronics and computer processing. Up until 2014, he worked primarily as a Guitarist and Educator within the paradigms of Jazz and Improvised music. Influenced by the work of his peers, Alex started adopting the techniques of computer music for his theatrical realizations. These pieces of sonic theater are sometimes playful, sometimes threatening; ranging from puppetry to ecstatic mystical ritual. Alex holds a B.M. in Jazz Studies from Oberlin Conservatory, a M.A. in Composition, and a M.F.A in Electronic Music and Recording Media from Mills College. He has studied music with Roscoe Mitchell, Zeena Parkins, Chris Brown, Fred Frith, Maggi Payne, Pauline Oliveros, Wendell Logan, William Winant, and Bobby Ferrazza. Alex has performed and recorded with Rent Romus, Brandon Evans, Joshua Allen, William Winant, Organ Yank, Peanut Twins, Dennis Franz Kafka, and numerous other projects.
