About the artists
"IDEA FIRE COMPANY was formed in 1987 by Karla Borecky and Scott Foust. Over the years, they have had many releases on labels such as Swill Radio (which I founded in 1983), Recital, Crisis of Taste, Entr'acte, Kye, Feeding Tube, I Dischi del Barone, Regional Bears, and Sound Company, among others. After their first two collage-based double LPs of the early 90's, they refined their tactics, paring back a lot of the studio work in favor of a more compositional approach. Since 1997's Anti-Natural LP, IFCO has mostly been a duo. Over the years, they have refined their unique combination of repetition, tonality, minimalism, and a sweetening disorientation into something that sounds like no one else. In 2019, they started working as a quintet with Matt Krefting (alto sax), Tim Shortell (clarinet), Mike Popovich (bass), Karla (keyboards), and Scott (synth & trumpet). They had half an excellent LP recorded before the shutdown. Hopefully, they will be able to finish that record soon and play live with the quintet with people in the room.
" For this show, Karla will be playing piano and I will be on synth and trumpet. We will be doing a new piece composed for this performance as well as playing some music from our back catalog. May 14 is also our 33rd wedding anniversary. Let's go!"
